“One Sweet Night” tells the true story of Doctor Ossian Sweet, a 1920’s African American doctor who moves his family into an all white street in Detroit. Their second night, a mob congregates outside the house determined to force the Sweet family to leave. Prepared for trouble, Ossian received assurances from his political connections that the police will protect the house. In addition, he has solicited the assistance of his brothers and several friends to help protect the house.
The film focuses solely on the experience of the Sweet family and friends inside the house. One Sweet Night dramatizes their realistic reactions to the threats of mob anger and violence while also illustrating their methods for survival and their attempts to maintain their dignity.
The mob is represented by an incredibly well designed and layered sound design created specifically for the film.
