In many parts of India, the issue of gender identity is oversimplified, misunderstood and never taught in schools. This has led to physical and psychological bullying in schools and at home.
Durex realized that when it came to gender identity, a student was more likely to approach their teacher rather than their friends or parents. So, Durex decided to educate the educators. With the help of the Government of India and the National Curriculum Framework, Durex created India's first gender identity course designed for teachers. From textbooks and videos to online sessions, and in-person training; Durex set up an entire eco-system to guide teachers on gender identity and other gender issues. The teachers who completed the course earned a rainbow door, symbolising a safe space where every student could be seen, heard and valued.
