When Sally White a pregnant, Black med student with an 800-credit score and a name that gives “Sunday school teacher in the suburbs” shows up to rent a room in a bland, whitewashed suburban home, her new roommates get more than they bargained for.
Becca, a tightly wound liberal with repressed biases, and Claire, her open-minded but spacey bestie, are two white 20-something roommates trying to make ends meet in a colorless (literally and metaphorically) rental home. Expecting someone “just like them,” they’re caught off guard when Sally White a vibrant, pregnant Black med student shows up as their new roommate. Becca panics, believing they’ve been deceived by the safest-sounding name in America. As Becca spirals into a full-blown identity crisis (complete with a privilege-induced panic attack), Sally uses her wit, warmth, and a box of cupcakes to school them both on bias, boundaries, and what it really means to show up for yourself and the people around you.
